Augustine’s Garden is a refined and contemporary residential complex, created in 2024 as a unified architectural ensemble designed by the architectural firm Sampling. Its central feature and signature element is the rental building designed in 1907 by architect Aleksandrs Vanags in the style of National Romanticism. The building’s historic façade, adorned with decorative details inspired by traditional Latvian ornaments, has been meticulously restored to its original charm. The rough-textured sand-colored plaster harmonizes beautifully with the deep red roof, while elegant façade lighting highlights the decorative reliefs after dark.Passing through a vaulted, illuminated gateway, one enters a cozy courtyard where former workshop buildings have been transformed into modern apartments and two-story urban-type homes. The architects have followed the principles of adaptive reuse, preserving the authentic atmosphere and the historical character of the site while introducing thoughtful, contemporary design elements that make the complex both functional and energy efficient.During the renovation, a complete technical reconstruction was carried out – including new electrical, water, and sewage systems, new internal partitions, and apartment entrance doors meeting high standards of sound insulation and fire safety. The façades, attics, and roofs have been fully renovated and insulated, achieving A and A+ energy efficiency ratings. Each apartment has an individual heat meter, a ventilation system with heat recovery, and heating provided either by convectors or underfloor heating with smart remote temperature control, ensuring comfort and low utility costs. Large double-glazed windows, French balconies, and terrace doors bring in abundant natural light, while the carefully planned basement offers storage for bicycles, strollers, and a personal storage room for each apartment.The interior design emphasizes natural materials, harmony, and functionality. Neutral color palettes and high-quality finishes create a calm and elegant atmosphere. Oak parquet flooring, stone tiles, and premium sanitary ware from Villeroy & Boch and Hansgrohe ensure durability and comfort, while high ceilings and spacious windows provide a bright, inspiring environment.
